Future Invaders is a physical card game set in a war-torn future Solar System, where four factions are caught in a needless war: Humans, Invaders, Organics, and Pirates.
Designed to be beginner-friendly, the game features simple rules and straightforward gameplay. For seasoned card game enthusiasts, it offers rich tactical depth, challenging your strategy, deck building, and drafting skills.
The game is entirely free to play. All cards are available for print-and-play, so you can enjoy it at home. In the future, we aim to either secure a publisher or self-publish the game.
Your goal in Future Invaders is to destroy your opponents' bases, while protecting your own. You do this by drawing cards, some of which are ships and structures, with which you populate a small grid in front of you.
Ships attack your opponents every turn, and both ships and structures protect you from enemy attacks. You can also play action cards, which change the state of the game, and reaction cards, which alter actions or prevent them from happening.
Most cards cost resources, which you earn by having ships and structures on the grid. There are five different factions, each with their own unique resource and gameplay style. Mixing factions is allowed, and encouraged.
The game can be played as a regular 1v1 battle, as a multiplayer battle, or in draft mode. Pre-assembled decks of cards are suggested on the website, to get you started.
As a brand-new game, Future Invaders had the opportunity to learn from the successes and failures of other similar card games. Its rules are simple and streamlined, yet provide ample room for tactical depth. Every card is designed to present unique strategic decisions, while strict overall design principles ensure that frustrating "anti-fun" mechanics are excluded from the game.
It stands apart from other games in the genre thanks to its innovative mechanics. The scrap pile serves as a comeback mechanism, avoiding one-sided matches. The multiplayer mode features a dynamic grid that shifts as players are eliminated. The reaction system allows for exciting chain reactions. Each turn, players must decide between drawing an extra card or filling their game grid, a decision that opens up a world of tactical possibilities.
Future Invaders does not treat its players as customers. Created by a card game enthusiast for other enthusiasts, the game actively incorporates player feedback, meaning your suggestions could influence its design and balance. Future Invaders does not use randomized booster packs. Instead, it will be a living card game: all cards are currently available for free as printable files and will later be sold as complete collections.
